Matt Backes is a Technical Staff member in the Energy Systems Group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory. Mr. Backes conducts research in energy resilience, with particular applications in microgrids, and critical infrastructure cybersecurity. Mr. Backes has led the planning and execution of DoD installation resilience exercises including black start and cyber resilience Who is the target audience? exercises. Mr. Backes has also helped lead the development of hardware-in-the-loop testbeds for power systems research. Mr. Backes graduated from the University of Illinois at UrbanaChampaign with a master’s degree in electrical engineering. He has served as a contributing member to the IEEE standards on microgrid controller specication and testing.
