Science and Technology (S&T) Directorate
The Science and Technology (S&T) Directorate is the primary research and development arm of the Department of Homeland Security. Its mission is to improve homeland security by providing to customers state-of-the-art technology that helps them achieve their missions. S&T customers include the operating components of the Department, and state, local, tribal and territorial emergency responders and officials.
Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA)
CISA is the operational lead for federal cybersecurity and the national coordinator for critical infrastructure security and resilience. CISA connects stakeholders in industry and government to each other and to resources, analyses, and tools to help them build their own cyber, communications, and physical security and resilience, in turn helping to ensure a secure and resilient infrastructure for the American people. Within CISA is the Interagency Security Committee (ISC). The ISC is a collaborative organization that provides leadership to the nonmilitary federal community supporting physical security programs that are comprehensive and risk based.
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) is an independent agency reporting to the President and tasked with responding to, planning for, recovering from and mitigating against disaster. Today, FEMA—a 2,500-person agency supplemented by more than 5,000 stand-by disaster reservists—has a mission to lead America to prepare for, prevent, respond to and recover from disasters with a vision of "A Nation Prepared." At no time in its history has this vision been more important to the country than in the aftermath of Sept. 11th.
Federal Insurance & Mitigation Administration
The overall mission of the Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration (FIMA) is to protect lives and prevent the loss of property from natural hazards. The work of FIMA's national programs is a major component of emergency management since these programs focus on protection of life and property and the prevention of future losses through partnerships with governments at the State and local levels as well as the private sector.
Urban Search & Rescue
Urban Search and Rescue, established under the authority of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in 1989 as the National Urban Search & Rescue Response System, is a framework for structuring local emergency services personnel into integrated disaster response task forces. These task forces, complete with necessary tools and equipment, and required skills and techniques, can be deployed by FEMA for the rescue of victims of structural collapse.
U.S. Fire Administration
As an entity of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the mission of the United States Fire Administration (USFA) is to reduce life and economic losses due to fire and related emergencies, through leadership, advocacy, coordination and support. We serve the Nation independently, in coordination with other Federal agencies, and in partnership with fire protection and emergency service communities. With a commitment to excellence, we provide public education, training, technology and data initiatives.

Federal Protective Service (FPS)
On March 1, 2003, the Federal Protective Service (FPS) transitioned to the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Border and Transportation Security Directorate of the Department of Homeland Security.
FPS provides law enforcement and security services to over one million tenants and daily visitors to all federally owned and leased facilities nationwide. FPS focuses directly on the interior security of the nation and the reduction of crimes and potential threats to federal facilities throughout the nation, and require close coordination and intelligence sharing with the investigative functions within ICE. FPS is a full service agency with a comprehensive HAZMAT, WMD, Canine, and emergency response program as well as state-of-the-art communication and dispatch Mega centers.
