What is SpecsIntact?
SpecsIntact is the latest generation of software for preparing standardized facility construction specifications used worldwide by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), the U.S. Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC), and the Air Force Civil Engineer Center (AFCEC).
SpecsIntact consists of two main components that utilize Master Guide Specifications prepared by the Tri-Services, the SI Explorer and the SI Editor.
The SI Explorer
Through the Explorer, users accomplish all the project management—creating new projects and processing completed ones, running quality assurance reports, tracking submittals, tailoring specifications to eliminate unneeded product and service content, and other functions to adapt multiple specifications to project requirements.
The SI Editor
The Editor is a full-featured document word processor for SpecsIntact XML specifications. With the Editor, users can edit and adapt Master Guide Specifications to individual facilities project requirements. The Editor offers numerous word processing productivity features, including editing with revisions, spell checking, case conversion, undo and redo, search and replace, and the creation and editing of formatted tables, and automated ordered lists. The Editor also offers features specific to federal facilities construction, including automated bracketed option selection, tailoring out product and service content, and the ability to show specifier notes, imperial and Metric units, and XML markup tags. The Editor also offers wizards and tools to perform multiple editing functions at once, including the Section Navigator, the Reference and Submittal Wizards. SpecsIntact software also includes the latest Unified Master Reference List (UMRL), as the master.ref file. By default, the SpecsIntact Editor will now use the UMRL for reference checking and updating.

What You Should Know
SpecsIntact is continually incorporating enhancements in response to user suggestions and guidance from the SpecsIntact Interagency Configuration Control and Coordinating Board, the governing panel that oversees SpecsIntact. The Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS) Master is updated in accordance with the direction and guidance from the UFGS Specifications Discipline Working Group. These panels meet to review and authorize suggested changes to the software and masters, and to ensure compatibility of the Master Guide Specifications.
Using SpecsIntact reduces the time and expense required to produce facility technical specifications and eliminates costly construction changes due to omissions, discrepancies, or improper quality controls. The system uses the UFGS Master Guide Specifications prepared by the Tri-Services. Both SpecsIntact and the UFGS Master continue to adopt the latest MasterFormat™ updates.
