The Corrosion Fundamentals course explains corrosion impacts to facilities & infrastructure and why they are important to the Department of Defense. It includes the "expanded" definition of corrosion, and the current laws, policies, and guidance that govern prevention and control. The training also explains the environmental factors which induce corrosion, the various forms of corrosion, and the general control and mitigation strategies to employ over the facility life cycle.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this workshop, attendees will:

  • Understand the "expanded" definition of corrosion, and the current law and criteria which govern prevention and control;
  • Describe the corrosion impacts to facilities & infrastructure and why they are important to the Department of Defense (DoD);
  • Identify the environmental factors which induce corrosion;
  • Identify and explain the various forms of corrosion;
  • Describe methods to prevent and control corrosion; and
  • Identify various inspection methods.
