Understanding the specific terminology used within SpecsIntact is fundamental to effectively utilizing the software and accurately interpreting its functionalities. This section aims to clarify key terms and concepts that are integral to working with SpecsIntact and its associated processes.
A set of specifications is referred to as a Job or Job specifications. A 16-character alphanumeric Job Name uniquely identifies each Job in the system. This name serves as the directory name in Windows File Explorer, containing all the Job's elements. You'll use this Job Name to locate an existing Job when you want to perform actions such as editing or printing.
Processing and producing a completed Job involves several steps. It is important for the user to first understand the terms and concepts used during this process.
A Job is created through the SpecsIntact Explorer's File menu > New > Job command. A Section can then be changed in several ways to fit the requirements of a particular Job:
SpecsIntact allows a Job to be prepared from the standard text contained in one or more Masters, also referred to as Master specifications, or Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS) Master-text. The UFGS Master is comprised of unified and agency-specific specifications for the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
A local Master covers conditions or requirements unique to a particular site (such as local codes, or geological and climatic conditions). Text may be extracted from a local, district, or regional Master in the same manner as any other.
For more information about the specification structure of Master-text, refer to the CSI MasterFormat, Section Format, and Tagging Structure Overview topics.
In SpecsIntact, the term Project serves as an inclusive term, referring collectively to both Jobs and Masters. While Jobs represent the specific, tailored specifications for an individual construction project, and Masters provide the standardized, foundational text, both are considered "Projects" when discussing overarching management, processing, or organizational features within the SpecsIntact system.
Sections are the fundamental, individual components within SpecsIntact that serve as the building blocks of Master specifications and tailored Jobs. Each Section is systematically organized within a broader Division and is dedicated to detailing specific, discrete aspects of construction.
The Working Directories are an integral component of SpecsIntact, serving as the repository for all Jobs and Masters. The system allows the configuration of one or multiple Working Directories, each designed with a distinct internal structure for storing Jobs, Masters, Templates, and Exports.
