This command will Import an existing Excel XML Spreadsheet into a SpecsIntact Formatted Table.

Illustration Icon Indicating StopBefore attempting to Import an Excel  Spreadsheet verify the file extension is XML, not XLS.  SpecsIntact can only import XML files.  If the file is an XLS Workbook, it must be saved as an Excel  XML Spreadsheet or Excel  XML Spreadsheet 2003 before continuing.

Some organizations have disabled the ability to Save Excel XML spreadsheets.  The latest version of SpecsIntact (v5.2.1 or newer) now allows you to copy and paste entire Excel spreadsheets or Word tables into SpecsIntact tables. 

It is important to understand the format of the Excel  XML Spreadsheet will determine how well the Table imports into SpecsIntact.  Make sure the spreadsheet is meticulously organized and formatted.  Illustrated below is an example of a spreadsheet that can be a potential formatting problem when imported into a SpecsIntact Table.

SpecsIntact will import spreadsheets containing up to 25 columns and 400 rows.  Tables containing 25 columns will be extremely small and difficult to read as it

must fit the SI Editor's margin settings, which only provide approximately 6 1/2 inches of workable space.

Using this Feature

The steps provided below assumes you have already prepared and saved the Excel spreadsheet, as and Excel XML Spreadsheet, as indicated above.

  1. Go to the Table menu, and select Insert >Table or select the Tagsbar Formatted Table button Illustration SpecsIntact Explorer's Tagsbar Table button
  2. From the Insert Table window, choose the number of Rows and Columns that match that of the spreadsheet
  3. If the Table Cell is selected, right-click and choose Table > Import Excel® XML Spreadsheet or mouse over the first cell, right-click and choose Import Excel® XML Spreadsheet
  4. Save the changes place the cursor outside the Formatted Table, and press Ctrl+S or select File > Save.
