Basic HVAC Controls

This session explains the role of mechanical engineers in HVAC control system design and the concept of building control loop and its components. Building controls related Unified Facility Criteria(UFC) and Unified Facility GuideSpecifications (UFGS) are also highlighted, and some examples are used in introducing the basic steps in creating and editing building control sequences.Basic control sequences of unitary equipment, rooftop units, and Variable-Air-Volume (VAV) air handling system are also discussed.

Basic HVAC Equipment and Systems

There are many heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems that are designed for different applications, complexity, and controls. In this presentation, we introduce the basics of HVAC equipment and systems for facilities personnel and others who manage HVAC systems. This presentation will cover different HVAC systems from small unit heaters and air conditioning units to large Variable-Air-Volume (VAV) systems. The session will cover how each system works and typical applications for each system.
