Small Project Design Guidance
|Category of Work||Typical Contract Value||Use Small Project Process||Small Project DB Process Suitable for:|
|$750k - $4M||Probably (if project meets listed suitability & requirements for SPDB)||
Low-complexity, limited construction trade projects requiring routine designs with limited plans and specifications. Routine construction practices with low schedule risk.
|<$750k||Yes||Non-complex (i.e. single design discipline projects)|
|III||Category III work requires no design and is not design-build.|
|IV||Category IV work requires no engineering or design and is not design-build.|
* SPDB may be suitable for projects >$4M by exception when the work is straight-forward, single trade, such as roadwork and roofing.
The Small Project Template (SPT) uses a 6 part format. Parts 2, 3, and 4 are dependent on the type of acquisition method (see table below). Part 1 is dependent on the required contractual clause. Part 5 is rarely used and Part 6 is used for attachments. Consult with the field office administering the contract to confirm the use of the SPT Part 2. Caution should be taken if the Standard Template Part 2 is used in lieu of the SPT Part 2 because there will likely be a significant cost increase due to additional administrative requirements.
|Acquisition Method||Part 2**||Part 3***||Part 4|
|Single Source||Small Project Template||Small Project Template||Small Project Template|
|MACC||Base contract edited for specific task order||Small Project Template||Base contract with specific task order edits from the Standard DB Master|
|Stand alone (competitive 8a)||Small Project Template||Small Project Template||Edited from the Standard DB Master or include/define level of quality in the small project template.|
** Part 2 of the SPDB template has reduced administrative requirements and therefore careful selection of experienced/ highly performing contractor is essential to success.
*** Tailor Part 3, Project Program to the acquisition method selected.
