DOE Federal Energy Management Program - FEMP

This FEMP 50 offering explores how as building technologies become more advanced and interconnected, we are able to track, monitor and collect data on each building's performance. Collecting and understand building data is the first step to identifying and reducing energy and water consumption to meet agency goals. With more advanced and interconnected technologies comes increased risk to cyber threats, but a commitment to cyber hygiene and best practices can overcome these risks. Join this session to understand how agencies can use building energy data to meet agency goals, leverage data to shape and improve O&M, and learn best practices and resources to ensure secure connected buildings.

Instructors

Jason Koman, Energy Technology Program Specialist, U.S. Department of Energy Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP)

Jason Koman is an Energy Technology Program Specialist at the Department of Energy's (DOE) Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP). He leads FEMP's work focused on Grid-Integrated Efficient Buildings (GEBs), water sustainability and resilience, and cybersecurity. Jason began his career in the non-profit space with the Clinton Foundation as a global program manager for energy efficient, low carbon buildings. Moving into the private sector as a consultant to the US Department of Energy during the Obama and Trump administrations, Jason rose to the role of managing director at RE Tech Advisors, leading a team of 30+ consultants to deliver sustainability programs for the US EPA and DOE. Jason decided to return to DOE in 2021 to focus on decarbonizing federal government infrastructure and helping agencies meet their sustainability goals under the Biden administration. He holds a Bachelor's in Public Policy from Trinity College, Hartford and a Master's in Public Policy from the University of California, Berkeley.

Jefferey Murrell, Program Manager for the Federal Energy-Intense Facilities (EIF), U.S. Department of Energy - Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP)

Jefferey Murrell is program manager for the Federal Energy-Intense Facilities (EIF) program in U.S. DOE's Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) and is a licensed professional engineer. He also serves as a Program Manager for the Federal Metering and Federal Energy Management and Information System (EMIS) programs. He currently supports the Federal Healthy Building Toolkit (HBT) and Federal Energy Efficient Product Procurement (EEPP) programs. Jeff graduated from Vanderbilt University with a B.S. in general engineering and graduated from Columbia Southern University with a master's in public administration. He is currently matriculating at California Southern University in the Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) program, with a focus on energy resiliency and EMIS development/planning.

Nael Nmair, Program Manager, Auditing, Operations and Maintenance, Re-tuning, DOE: Department of Energy - Federal Energy Management Program
