Construction Operations Building Information Exchange (COBie)

COBie allows the exchange of IFC-based facility management data. To view the data, however, a spreadsheet is a more readable format than IFC-Express or ifcXML. As a result a spreadsheet that contains the required COBie data has been created.

COBie2 Training

COBie 101. Introduction To COBie

Objective

COBie 101 is designed to help designers, builders, commissioning agents, facility managers, facility owners, and federal agency representatives understand how COBie can reduce the cost of doing business today. To achieve this goal, the rational for the COBie project and the contents of COBie deliverables are described in detail.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course. Those new to COBie should take the course in order. Once you have taken the course, or are familiar with COBie, you can jump directly to the specific section of interest.

Scope

This training does not describe or require specific software. While commercial software systems can and do support COBie this training provides no discussion of how to use that software. This training covers the requirements for COBie, in general, and covers the specific use of the COBie2 worksheets in detail. Through this training the potential software vendor implementing COBie2 can see the relationship between the data sets in each of the COBie2 worksheets. The casual reader interested in the content of COBie will be able to get a well organized answer to that question. The planner, designer, building, commissioning agent, owner or asset manager interested in using COBie2 directly on smaller projects will be able to see exactly that is accomplished using this training course.
